Fall 2018 Schedule

The expected* schedule for the Spring 2018 season appears below, and can also be found in calendar form on the main website page at the bottom.  *We use the term "expected" because sometimes issues arise with facilities that are out of our control, and we have to adjust.  This is the best information we have as of this update, and we HOPE it will stick for the season.  But we can't promise.  Just cross your fingers (which is our main strategy).

Important notes for this season:

  • MOST Meets will be held at Falls Church High School, with the exception of Sunday, September 23rd, when we will be at Cooper Middle School.  UPDATE: due to incomplete Track work at FCHS, we will be holding our first (Orientation) Meet at LANGLEY HIGH SCHOOL in McLean on September 9th.  The Meet on the 16th is also impacted, but we are still working out the exact solution for that day and will update as soon as possible.
  • The September 23rd Meet will also be at a different time due to our need to work around another sport's schedule since we are "borrowing" their allotted space that day.  PLEASE review the schedule for EACH Meet at least a day ahead of time so that you are in the right place at the right time on Meet day!
  • Track & Field Meets (like practices) are subdivided into two age divisions:  5-8-year-olds, and 9-14-year-olds.  Unlike previous single-group seasons, we will NOT be alternating start times between the age divisions this season; we only have three "regular" Track & Field Meets because this is our joint Track/Cross-Country season, so we just want to keep it simple for the few Meets we have.
  • Please note that with the Cross-Country (XC) Meets, we do NOT divide by age, so ALL runners report at the same time. We also start at a slightly different time, due to the shorter nature of XC events, and the need for course setup. We run four races each XC Meet - 1K, 2K, 3K, and 4K - in that order, with each race beginning as soon as the previous one ends.  While it is possible that we may run multiple heats of the 1K if we have a large turnout, we want to emphasize that these events move VERY quickly, so even kids planning to run only the 3 or 4K should still plan to arrive at the Meet start time for warmups so as to ensure that they do not miss their race's start.
  • Because of the as-yet-unknown date of the first Fall Junior Olympics event, we are scheduling this season to run every Sunday through the end of October, including October 7th, which is the Sunday of Columbus Day weekend.  (Fall JO is *typically* the first weekend in November, but is often a Saturday event.)  MYTF RETURNING FAMILIES PLEASE NOTE this is a change from most past years!  We opted for this rather than risk having to rejigger the entire schedule once the JO info comes in (and we have no idea when that will be).

PRACTICES

All practices will be held at Cooper Middle School, on the main field with the track behind the school.  When you come in Cooper's main entrance, bear to the right, along the right side of the building, and back to where the tennis courts are located.  You may park in the lot by the courts, and the field we use is just past and below the courts.

Practice times will be the same for the age groups as in previous seasons, with the exception of an added day of practices (Friday).  We added the extra sessions to help spread the attendance out over the week, and also help those who have other Tuesday through Thursday activities, which seem to be the most popular times for extracurriculars.

Like Meets, practices are divided by age.  For both Groups, the times/ages will be as follows:

  5:00 pm 6:00 pm
Tuesdays 5-8-year-olds 9-14-year-olds
Wednesdays 9-14-year-olds 5-8-year-olds
Thursdays 5-8-year-olds 9-14-year-olds
Fridays 9-14-year-olds 5-8-year-olds

PLEASE attend ONLY those practices for the appropriate age group.  We know it's tricky when you have multiple children in a family who are in different age divisions, but from a coaching perspective, it's *really* important to have kids of similar ages within a practice session.  You wouldn't expect your 5-year-old to be allowed to practice with your 11-year-old's soccer team, or your 9-year-old to practice with your 6-year-old's teeball team - this is no different!

We have been made aware that Cooper will be unavailable to use on Thursday, September 6th and Wednesday, September 12th, due to school events.  Unfortunately, there really are no alternatives when our practice facilities become unavailable, so just know that you'll have those days free to run at home!
